Major flaw in Avatar

So finally I saw Avatar; I think I was the last person on earth.
Is it a huge flaw in the movie that they don't explain why the main character has an Australian accent?
(In spanish I would have said, "He visto Avatar!")

    He kind of went back and forth between an Australian accent and an American one, probably because he's an Australian actor who hasn't mastered an American accent yet. . . I found it very distracting but my friends didn't even seem to notice it.

    Yeah..I actually didn't really notice it. But i agree with Steven, he just probably didn't nail down his accent.
