The place was beautiful, the stage was beautiful & the music was beautiful but the dancing wasn't...I think it was purposely that way so it wasn't bad, I just didn't like it.
The dancer was really modern and not a flamenco dancer at all. A lot of people flat out hated it but I think that's just because they're Flamenco nazis. There were some admirable things about the performance...she was fit, it was creative and she pushed the flamenco boundaries - I'm all for that! And I thought it was brave of her to do it. Flamenco people hate change - some people still bitch about the cajon ruining the purity of the art form - so imagine the resistance she's probably up against. Well I commend her despite not liking it. As my cousin Roland says, "You go girl!"
Here's a video. I actually caught a beautiful moment, maybe it wasn't that bad...or maybe I did like it.
Also, here's a video of just the musicians - THE MUSIC WAS SO GOOD! But tell me if you think the cajon player looks like the dad from Tim Burton's Charlie & the Chocolate Factory, Noah Taylor - I totally thought so. I loved him in 'He Died with a Falafel in his Hand'.
Pushing boundaries is always admirable!! I miss you so much!!! Class just isn't the same without you =( I can't wait to see you!!
ReplyDeleteInteresting...almost more contemporary than flamenco.
